Registration Eligibility:

Eligibility to play at National Little League is based on catchment, age, & special considerations.

Catchment: National Little League offers programs to children who live or attend school within our Catchment Area.

Age: A player’s age is for Little League baseball is their League Age. League Age is determined by what the player’s age is on the upcoming August 31st. You can determine your player’s League Age by using the Little League Age Calculator. The calculator does not have an option for Blastball, however league age still does apply.

Special Circumstances: There may be special circumstances that would allow your player to be eligible to play for National Little League. Please reach out to us about this before registering.

Team Formation:

All Teams are formed by National Little League Board Members. Each division uses slightly different methods & criteria for team formation, such as draft, assessment balanced, school attending, and whether or not friend requests are permitted. What method is used is based on the developmental stage of the division. Regardless of formation method, Major, Minor, and Rookie teams require players to have been assessed before being placed on a team. Mini, TeeBall, & Blastball teams are formed without formal assessment, however any League Age 7 or 8 year-olds need to attend assessments to ensure they are in the correct division

Assessments: Are necessary for the Little League Spring Season. They are held in March, prior to the start of the season, in April. Players League Age 7 to 12 are required to attend an assessment session to be able to be placed on a team and play in the Spring Season. Assessments allow the Board to ensure that teams are balanced, as well as maintaining player safety by having them play in the most developmentally appropriate division. Assessments are not used for the Fall Ball season, though teams are still balanced as best as possible using assessments from Spring Season and GameChanger data for returning players, and self-declarations of playing ability for new players

Friend Requests: Playing with a friend or two is a very popular request, and we know often makes activities more fun. But also friend requests can often be complicated, complex, & difficult to navigate for the volunteer Board members who form the teams. With that in mind National’s Friend Request policy is:

Blastball, TeeBall, and Mini Divisions – reciprocal friend requests* of up to two players are permitted; one coach request is permitted; siblings are automatically placed on the same team if eligible in the same division.

Rookie, Minor, and Major Divisions – no friend requests are permitted (teams are formed based on player assessment); one coach request is permitted but does not guarantee placement on that coach’s team; siblings are not automatically placed on the same team, but requests for siblings to be together will be honoured, if eligible in the same division.

Fall Ball does not have Player Assessments, so friend requests MAY be taken into consideration for Rookie and Minor Divisions.

*reciprocal friend requests require that the friends request each other to be considered a valid friend request. An example of a reciprocal friend request would be that Matt’s registration has Jas noted as the friend request and Jas’ registration has Matt noted as their friend request. A non valid friend request would be if Matt’s registration had Jas noted as the friend request, but Jas did not have Matt noted, and instead had another player or no one written at all; Matt’s friend request would not be complete and would not be able to be honoured.

It is a best practice to confirm with the family of the player you are friend requesting that they are indeed playing in the same season (Spring or Fall) and the same division as your child.

Important Information for Parents/Guardians:

Volunteer Expectations: Parents are expected to volunteer for their player’s team and for the club in general. There are many different roles and opportunities throughout the year, so there is something for everyone. The obvious examples are: coaching, team coordinator, scoreboard, etc. Some lesser known examples would be: fundraising committee, team equipment tracking, social media posting, and records managment.

Payment Methods: Registration is done through TeamSnap, so you can use the payment methods permitted by their site. Standard payment methods of Visa, MasterCard, & Visa Debit will be available.

Financial Assistance: As is the policy of Little League Canada, no child will be turned away for financial reasons. In Victoria we have programs that are available to assist families with registration costs for Spring Season.

The main two programs are JumpStart & KidSport. Instructions for applying for KidSport online are here.
